Textbook Example of “Transnational Repression” emerging from Pakistan! It’s being encouraged by Pakistani Govt officials belief that since they are developing close relationship in Washington, their acts of “Transnational Repression” will also be ignored. Pakistani Govt is not only targeting US Citizens & lawful Residents, who protest, demonstrate or tweet from the US soil, but it’s also harassing & intimidating media (Case of Ahmad Noorani in point) and in case of Ms. Mehlaqa Samdani, they are now trying to silence someone who heads a Civil Society Organization that works closely with Congressional Teams & Human Rights Organizations to raise issues of Law & Justice in Pakistan & elsewhere. Ignoring these growing & increasingly bold acts of Transnational Repression tantamount to surrendering on First Amendment & the overall ethos of United States Constitution. But there is greater risk; Pakistani Govt is creating extra-territorial reach on the US soil, through an atmosphere of fear & intimidation that at a later stage can be used for other dangerous activities!
