WHO WILL INVESTIGATE THE INVESTIGATORS?
Disturbing allegations are now emerging about the treatment of Ayat Noor’s grieving mother during the police investigation into her five-year-old daughter’s case.
According to journalist Tanveer Awan, SP Samina Zafar allegedly subjected Ayat Noor’s mother to deeply degrading and sexually humiliating questioning, asking about her relationships and making obscene remarks about her personal life.
Even more disturbing, she is alleged to have accused the grieving mother of having an illicit relationship with her brother-in-law, Nawaz, and suggested that she herself had somehow removed her own daughter from the way because of that alleged relationship.
The allegations do not end there.
Nawaz, the mother’s brother-in-law, was allegedly taken into police custody for five to six days and subjected to such severe physical torture that, according to the account, he remains unable to sit properly even today.
Think about what is being alleged here.
A mother’s five-year-old daughter had disappeared and was later found dead. At the moment when she needed protection, compassion and justice, she was allegedly subjected instead to character assassination, sexual humiliation and psychological pressure by those responsible for investigating the case.
These allegations are far too serious to be ignored.
Was Ayat Noor’s mother subjected to this treatment?
Who authorised the detention of Nawaz?
Was he tortured in custody?
Were proper custody records maintained?
And can officers accused of such misconduct be allowed to investigate the very case in which the allegations arose?
The Ayat Noor case requires more than an internal explanation.
There must be an independent and transparent investigation into these allegations, including the conduct of every police officer involved. If proven, accountability must follow.
A grieving mother deserves justice, not humiliation.
