Gen Asim Munir took over the command of the Pakistan Army from out going Gen Bajwa on November 29, 2022. His appointment is marred with controversy as he had retired from the army a few days earlier.
It is speculated that he is a part of the famous ‘London Plan’, a conspiracy with Nawaz Shareef, in which Shareef promised to support Gen Munir for the position of Army Chief, and in return Gen Munir committed to pave the way for Shareef’s return to power.
After his appointment as Army Chief, Gen Munir intensified the crackdown on Imran Khan and PTI.
He also supervised the May 9th false-flag operation, led the crackdown on PTI supporters, delayed provincial assembly election, tried to dismantle PTI and barred them from running for General Elections as a political party, ordered the abduction of PTI candidates and activists, and mass rigging of the Feb 8th election.
Gen Munir installed the Shahbaz Shareef Government by using brute force. Muslim League (N), which had won only 17 seats, were declared the winner on 70 plus seats by the Election Commission of Pakistan on the orders of Gen Munir.
On the orders of Gen Munir, Iman Khan was implicated in over 200 cases and has been in prison for over an year. Gen Munir pressurized the judiciary to convict Imran Khan’s wife in fabricated crimes, and also had Imran Khan’s sisters arrested.
