Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali Chatha Assaulted and Detained Despite Court Orders: A Shameful Breach of Justice

The President of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association, Wajid Gillani, has issued a fierce and uncompromising condemnation of the barbaric violence and illegal arrests targeting Human Rights Activists Lawyers Imaan Mazari and Hadi Ali. He has called the incident not just shameful, but outright revolting and deeply disturbing to the core of justice itself.

As Imaan Mazari, Hadi Ali Chatha, Gillani, and other lawyers were en route to appear before Judge Afzal Majoka’s court, they were barbarically stopped at Serena Chowk. Despite possessing clear orders from the High Court, law enforcement officials descended into savage brutality smashing vehicle windows and violently dragging them out without any justification.

Gillani didn’t hold back, exposing the brutal assault inflicted upon the lawyers. He described how a male officer mercilessly grabbed Imaan Mazari by the nape of her neck, choking her and forcibly shoving her into a vehicle an act of violence that is utterly intolerable in a civilized society.

This reckless display of brutality exposes a shocking breakdown of law and order, and a direct assault on the rule of law. Such violence against members of the legal fraternity is a blatant attack on justice, an insult to the nation’s legal institutions, and a clear indication that the authorities have no respect for the fundamental rights guaranteed by the Constitution.

The outrage among lawyers and civil society is deafening. There is an urgent demand for a thorough, transparent investigation and the immediate holding accountable of every criminal involved in this savage assault. Legal bodies are warning that if justice is not swiftly served, they will escalate their protests up to and including mass demonstrations to expose this blatant abuse of power and defend the independence of the legal profession at all costs.

This incident is a stark warning: the rule of law is under siege, and those who uphold justice must stand united and unyielding against such savage repression. Enough is enough justice must prevail!
