Alarming Reports from Gujranwala Central Jail: Serious Concerns Over the Life and Health of MNA Haji Imtiaz Chaudhry

Disturbing allegations have emerged regarding the health and treatment of Haji Imtiaz Ahmed Chaudhry, the elected Member of Pakistan’s National Assembly from Mandi Bahauddin, currently imprisoned in Gujranwala Central Jail.

According to reports being circulated, he is allegedly being held in a dark room, denied adequate food, clean drinking water, essential medication, and proper medical attention. Serious allegations of physical and psychological mistreatment have further intensified concerns about his safety.

Already suffering from multiple health conditions, Haji Imtiaz reportedly faces restrictions on visits from his family and legal counsel. His lawyers allege that obstacles to legal access persist despite court orders.

Where is the rule of law? What has become of the sanctity of judicial orders? Who is responsible for protecting the constitutional and fundamental human rights of an elected representative?

But perhaps the most heartbreaking part of this unfolding story is the suffering of a mother.

Haji Imtiaz Chaudhry’s reportedly 100-year-old mother is critically ill and hospitalised.

At an age when every passing moment is precious, a frail and ailing mother is waiting desperately to see her imprisoned son.

A mother who raised him, prayed for him, and spent her life worrying about his well-being is now lying in a hospital bed, hoping to see him again.

Does a sick, 100-year-old mother not even have the right to see her son?

This is no longer simply a question of politics.

It is about human dignity. The rights of an elected representative. The suffering of a family. The authority of the courts. And the constitutional guarantees that must protect every citizen, regardless of political affiliation.

The concerns raised demand immediate attention.

An urgent, independent medical examination must be arranged. Haji Imtiaz must have access to necessary medication, adequate food, drinking water, his family, and legal counsel in accordance with the law.

The allegations of mistreatment and denial of medical care must be investigated independently and transparently. Any responsibility for unlawful conduct must be established through due process.

Political differences can never justify depriving a human being of medical care, legal representation, or basic human dignity.

Mandi Bahauddin deserves answers.

A mother is waiting for her son.

And history will remember how those entrusted with upholding the law responded.
