PTI supporters have faced a sweeping crackdown involving the detention of women, raids on homes, property damage and the arrest of family members.
Shehla Niazi, Rehana Babar and Huma Saeed were taken from their homes in Islamabad. SHO Misbah led a raid on Niazi’s home at around 3 a.m., while Rehana Babar and Huma Saeed described as homemakers were taken away during the night.
ASI Asif, detained a citizen at around 9 p.m. near Gulzar-e-Quaid police post, Chaklala, holding him through the night and releasing him in the morning after receiving Rs3,000. A video statement by the citizen has been shared.
Home of Raja Muhammad Saleem, its former district president in Rahim Yar Khan and a claimant to NA-169, and damaged household belongings with hammers, causing losses worth lakhs of rupees.
In Jhelum, a raid on MPA Rifat Zaidi’s home was followed by the abduction of his 80-year-old mother and two sons. The home of his brother, Azhar Shah, was damaged and that children from his family were taken away.
PTI has condemned the incidents as intimidation and abuse of power. No political affiliation can justify unlawful detention or mistreatment and no allegation should go unanswered.
