Fascism in Punjab: Raids, Closures and Crackdowns to Silence the Street Movement

CM KPK Sohail Afridi came to Punjab for a street movement and Maryam Nawaz’s government responded with road closures, business shutdowns, raids, and harassment. A factory belonging to the Dars brothers in Sialkot was sealed. Police raided former Wazirabad president Shahbaz Ahmad Cheema’s home, where his daughter described the treatment her family faced. Others involved in the movement say they were pressured in markets and elsewhere.

This is the face of fascism: using state power to silence political opponents instead of answering their demands. Is asking for rights a crime? No. The crackdown is actually the fear of PTI’s popularity and of Maryam Nawaz losing a seat won on basis of form 47.
