Another deeply disturbing case has emerged from Mianwali.
According to accounts shared by PTI leaders, police took away 93-year-old Alam Khan Pathan, father of PTI worker Jannat Gul Khan, despite his advanced age and frail condition.
He was reportedly kept in custody for nearly five hours and released only after his health deteriorated severely.
But the ordeal did not end there.
It is alleged that two younger members of the same family were then taken away by police.
What crime does a 93-year-old father commit because of the political affiliation of his son?
If there is a lawful case against someone, arrest that person according to law, produce them before a court and present the evidence.
Punishing parents, relatives and entire families for someone else’s politics is not law enforcement. It is collective intimidation.
Mianwali has already witnessed repeated allegations of raids, harassment and violations of the sanctity of homes. This case now demands immediate answers:
Who ordered the detention of a 93-year-old man?
On what legal grounds was he held?
Where are the two younger family members reportedly taken afterward?
And who will be held accountable if political affiliation is being used as justification for targeting entire families?
The Punjab government and Punjab Police must answer publicly.
Political differences can never justify the humiliation of elderly parents or the targeting of families.
A 93-year-old man should not have to pay the price for his son’s politics.
