“The SHO has become a Pharaoh.” These are the angry words emerging from Mochh, Mianwali, following an alleged incident in which the father of a martyr was reportedly subjected to humiliating treatment at a police station.
According to sources, on the alleged orders of Mochh Police Station SHO Rana Tauqeer, subordinate police officials picked up an elderly man and brought him to the station. When the man introduced himself as the father of a martyr, he was reportedly met with the deeply insensitive response: “Tie your martyrs to your head.”
Sources say the elderly man’s young son was martyred in 2018, a tragedy that caused immense grief to his family.
Those familiar with the incident claim that the elderly man had committed no offence and that his only apparent “crime” was sitting at a local hotel. He was allegedly taken to the police station, where he was subjected to harassment and the reported remarks were made.
Local residents have also raised allegations about the SHO’s conduct, claiming that he has previously detained innocent citizens without clear justification, allegedly subjected them to harassment, and behaved rudely with family members who came to meet detainees or bring them food.
There are further allegations from local sources that the open sale of drugs continues in the area, raising questions about whether the SHO is being held accountable for the situation.
The alleged treatment of a martyr’s father has sparked anger and grief across the district.
We appeal to DPO Mianwali Waqar Azeem Kharal and RPO Sargodha Asif Khan to take notice of the incident and conduct an impartial investigation. If the allegations against SHO Rana Tauqeer are found to be true, appropriate departmental action should be taken.
