Rawalpindi Commissioner Liaqat Ali Chatha, who publicly exposed alleged manipulation and the “stolen mandate” in the 2024 general elections involving Imran Khan, has resurfaced after a prolonged period of enforced disappearance.
According to sources, Chatha disappeared shortly after making his revelations and allegedly endured nearly two years of detention, torture, and severe hardship. Those who have seen him say he has returned in an extremely fragile physical and mental condition, raising serious concerns about his treatment during his absence.
The case reignites debate over political repression in Pakistan. Chatha’s ordeal is emblematic of a broader crackdown on dissent, that only a fraction “not even five percent” of the oppression attributed to what they describe as the Asim–Sharif–Zardari regime has come to light so far.
