Samiullah Wazir, a PTI activist, was released from military custody in early January 2025 in an extremely weakened state, sparking outrage over the brutal torture and human rights violations carried out by those responsible for his condition. His deteriorated health underscores the reckless brutality of the military establishment and its blatant disregard for human life and dignity.
Wazir was among seven PTI activists released from Peshawar Central Prison after enduring 19 months behind bars. Upon release, he was confined to a wheelchair, unable to walk or speak properly, and unable to recognize his loved ones evidence of the severe physical and psychological torment inflicted upon him.
Member of the National Assembly Mohsin Dawar visited Wazir at Hayatabad Medical Complex, condemning the military’s barbaric treatment. Dawar described Wazir as “senseless,” with severe memory loss and an impaired mental state, clearly a victim of the inhumane torture inflicted by those in power.
PTI leaders and Wazir’s family allege that he was subjected to extreme, deliberate torture hung upside down, hornets released onto his body, and other brutal methods aimed at breaking his spirit. The military’s blatant abuse of detainees, especially political activists like Wazir, exposes their sinister agenda to crush dissent through violence and intimidation.
Medical assessments confirm Wazir’s inability to stand without help, along with serious cognitive and physical impairments. His condition is a direct result of the sadistic treatment he was subjected to by the military authorities, who have shown no remorse or accountability for their actions.
Wazir was convicted by a military court for alleged involvement in attacks during the May 9 riots (False Flag Operation), but his case is a clear example of how the military’s arbitrary detention and torture policies are designed to terrorize political opponents and suppress opposition.
This case highlights the criminal role of the military establishment and its reckless abuse of power. Their inhumane treatment of Wazir and others like him reveals their true face: a brutal regime that uses violence, torture, and enforced disappearances to maintain control and silence dissent. The silence and inaction of those responsible only confirm their complicity in these atrocities, demanding urgent international scrutiny and accountability.
